Club History


The club was organized in 1939 with 38 members. In 1977, when we had 45 members, we organized the Hannibal Early Bird Kiwanis Club. Today we have over 50 members and the Early Birds have about 50 members.

We conduct three fund-raisers each year which enable us to spend over $30,000 annually on community service projects.
Our fund-raising projects are:

• Pancake Day on the Saturday before Easter
• The Samuel L. Clemens Arts & Crafts Festival during National Tom Sawyer Day, the Fourth of July weekend
• Kiwanis Raffle

Notable past accomplishments include:

• 9-1-1 emergency service in Hannibal
• Kiwanis Park on the riverfront
• Improvements in Central Park: new fountain, sidewalks, benches, and bandstand rehabilitation
• Cabins at Camp Oko-Tipi

Some of our annual/traditional projects include:

• Shoes and coats for school kids
• Kids’ Christmas shopping
• Sponsorship of the Hannibal High School Key Club
• Reading programs for kids
• Support of other worthwhile organizations such as the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, CHART Teen Taskforce, AVENUES, and Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch
• $3,000 for the following college scholarships: Dillinger-Herrin Memorial Scholarship, Mack Long Memorial Scholarship, Morris Resnick Memorial Scholarship, Andy Zembles Memorial Scholarship, Mark Eggleston Key Club Scholarship, and Bill Webber Kiwanis Scholarship
